SMU guard Brian Bernardi has chosen to transfer to Hofstra over Fairfield, according to a source.
Bernardi is the second transfer that has opted to not come to Fairfield this offseason. St. Francis, Pa. senior guard Umar Shannon picked Quinnipiac over Fairfield last month, with the primary reason being QU’s graduate studies offered one-year programs while the Stags do not.
The source did not disclose the reason why Bernardi preferred Hofstra over Fairfield. Bernardi, who is from New York City, averaged 3.5 points and 1.0 rebound per game last season playing for Larry Brown’s Mustangs.
Fairfield coach Sydney Johnson was not available for comment. The Stags have two open scholarships with the recent departure of 7-foot center Josip Mikulic.
